Garden Peach Porch Tomatoes

A yoga friend gifted us some heirloom garden peach and yellow pear tomato plants.

We potted them up on our front porch: the only part of our yard in good sun and safe from deer.

Heirloom varieties are so fun — heirloom animals as well as plants!

Someday, I’d love some Black Breasted Red Kraienkoppes and Golden Lakenvelders from this heirloom poultry preservation center.

(And yes, the glorious names DO have something to do with it.)

This is my first year at growing a heirloom tomato plant since I’ve become bored in growing my traditional ones. It was looking lovely when along came a 30 degree night and we thought it needed to be covered. Frost did not come but when uncovering it a mishap which broke it off at the ground. I promptly when back to the feed and seek store where I purchased it and now have a replacement. It looks small now but it will probably catch up quickly once the Kansas weather decides to warm up to normal temps.

Hooray for heirlooms! And hooray for your dedication to them — I am glad you were able to find a replacement! Send us photos when that little plant is big and sporting huge tomatoes!
